What’s wrong with government and politics in America? The House of Representatives passed a Republican plan that would extend the payroll tax cut and speed the process for government approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline. What’s the point? Even if this plan makes it through the Senate, President Obama has already said that he would veto it. There is no correlation between the payroll tax cut extension and the oil pipeline. This is just another political ploy to play the ratings game and twist each side’s words to make it look like both the Democrats and Republicans don’t support America’s workers.
Maybe they are right. I am beginning to believe that our politicians are only concerned with power. What is best for America cannot be the real interest of many politicians in America. If it were, then we wouldn’t constantly find ourselves at the brink of governmental self-destruction. This is political brinkmanship. This isn’t a battle of ideals, this is a war on Americans. This type of game playing does nothing to support American workers. We have become pawns in a power struggle that is tearing this country apart. Our elected officials would rather propose bills that have no chance of helping Americans to make political moves than find ways to work together so we can really move out of this mess we are in.
Will this next election period bring any real change to Washington? Does it matter if we elect a new President from the right, or keep the one we have? Have party politics killed our belief that Government can do what is right for most of the people? I like to think that the public still has the ability to cause change by electing individuals that can make a difference. I still believe in democracy and that government can be run in an efficient way that is bi-partisan in nature. I hope that we, as a nation, have not become so disillusioned that we fail to expect the same of our government and those elected to run it.
