Another Thanksgiving is upon us and I have a lot to be thankful for. Maybe it’s because I am now in my 40’s, but it sure seems this year has flown by. Unfortunately we have a flock of GOP candidates that do not seem to fly – not up or away. This group of turkeys makes me sometimes feel like an ostrich wanting to bury my head in the sand.
The economy is supposed to be in a slight incline. My finances do not reflect that, but I am thankful for the job I have and that we are still able to pay our mortgage. My children are performing well in school and my wife is progressing forward in her career. Despite my frustration with the current state of affairs throughout the country, I have hope for the future.
Our GOP candidates, however, would have that hope crushed. They want us to believe that our country is on the brink of collapse that only they can save. The GOP as a whole seems to be doing all they can to sabotage our government so they can come in as it’s saviors. They are unwilling to work with Democrats to find solutions that work and are committed to their course of destruction and would have us believe that only they know what is right.
Even if the GOP’s ways are ones that would help our country move out of this recession at a faster rate, the way they are going about it feels wrong. Furthermore, the people that they have put forth as possible presidential material are more like turkeys than leaders. Assume that Newt Gingrich, Michelle Bachmann, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Herman Cain or even Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, or Jon Huntsman were elected President, would most American’s take them seriously? Would the world take them seriously?
As Americans we have a lot to be thankful for. Let’s just be careful while enjoying our turkey this Thanksgiving not to elect one.
